Save the Skate Film: A Film to Save the Maugean Skate

Join us for the premiere Hobart screening of this powerful documentary about Tasmania's ancient and endangered Maugean skate. First discovered in 1988 and dating back 60 million years, this remarkable creature now faces extinction.

This new Environment Tasmania film is Directed by award-winning filmmaker Josh "Bones" Murphy, this 30-minute documentary is produced by renowned filming crew Land and Sea For All in partnership with Patagonia. A short film documentary exploring the plight of the endangered Maugean skate – an ancient species worth saving.

Event Schedule:

  • 6:15 PM: Doors open, arrival and seating

  • 6:30 PM: Film screening (30 minutes)

  • 7:00 PM: Light refreshments and discussions

  • 7:30 PM: Expert panel discussion (30 minutes)

  • 8:00 PM: Event concludes

Expert Panel: Panel members to be announced - featuring scientists, conservationists, and advocates working to save the Maugean skate.

Ticket Information:

  • $5 Standard Admission: Supports the Save the Maugean Skate campaign

  • $15 Premium Admission: Includes entry into a raffle to win artwork by Rueben Oates, and limited edition marine wildlife stickers by local Tasmanian artist Jaclyn Rogerson

All proceeds from ticket sales go directly to Environment Tasmania's "Save the Maugean Skate" campaign.
